Hi I'm Rob,
I’m a software engineer and amateur photographer living in Margate uk.
I wanted to create somewhere that could showcase some of my favourite photographs. The intention was to build something that treats each of them like a first-class citizen, making the most of the available space in the browser, and displaying them sympathetically, without any distractions, comments, opinions, widgets, buttons or filters.
Over time, I’ve added the ability to categorise and group stuff, but the original simplicity and functionality remains unchanged. Each full-screen photo can be clicked to reveal another, creating a sense of distraction-free discovery and encouraging me to pause and reflect.
While I do enjoy taking photographs and I want to improve, many of these pictures are poorly composed, over exposed, out of focus and of boring subjects. Despite this they all mean something to me and this website celebrates their imperfections. I’ve found that when I take an average photo and present it as if it were a masterpiece in my own private gallery I start to look at it differently, that is to say I actually look at it to begin with. By giving it somewhere to hang, I can revisit and re-appreciate it over time.
Thanks for visiting!
